Local Activities There is a wide variety of things to do in the Church Minshull area. Here are just a few ideas to whet your appetite!
Cycling
The Outlanes is situated in a quiet country area criss-crossed by small lanes with not too many hills. Gentle cycle routes can easily be planned as well as longer or more challenging circuits and both Brook Cottage and The Outlanes are on the local sprint triathlon circuit.
Walking
The Outlanes is on the Crewe and Nantwich Circular Walk and the Weaver Way, both of which use the canal towpath adjacent to the farm. The South Cheshire Way and Sandstone Trail long distance paths are both within easy access. Shorter walks are available around Nantwich taking in the Shropshire Union canal, the Llangollen Canal, Nantwich Lake and villages like Acton and Swanley.
Riding
The walking/riding route of the Bishop Bennett Way is not far, Delamere Forest is within easy reach and the Southview Riding Centre at Wettenhall is near by.
Nantwich
Nantwich has a wealth of interesting black and white historic buildings and a stunning Church in the town centre, often referred to as the Cathedral of South Cheshire. There is an interesting Museum and a town trail as well as a swimming pool (indoor all year round and outdoor in the summer (end of May to the end of September)).
There are good restaurants of all styles, child friendly pubs and a wealth of small specialist shops together with a vibrant market.
Local Festivals and Events
Nantwich has several festivals each year: Holly Holy Day in January when the Battle of Nantwich is celebrated and re-enacted by members of the Sealed Knot, a Jazz and Blues Festival at Easter, Nantwich Food Festival in September, Nantwich Folk and Roots Festival in August and monthly Farmers’ Markets. The Nantwich Show takes place in July and showcases farming and country crafts along with the famous Nantwich Cheese Show. The World Worm Charming Championships also take place each year in June, just outside Nantwich in Willaston.
The Middlewich Folk and Boats Festival takes place close by in Middlewich every June.
Fishing
Fishing is available on the Shropshire Union Canal (subject to the appropriate BW licence). More details can be found on www.waterscape.com
Bird Watching
Between the farmland, canal and wooded stream valleys there is a wide variety of habitats attracting plenty to interest the birdwatcher. From Brook Cottage garden there are views into the wooded stream valley and of the birdlife in the area.
